A Mountain Wedding Adventure

There’s something so special about a couple who loves the mountains and adventure—and Jessica and Michael are exactly that kind of couple. Living in Kansas, they have always had a love for the mountains, so when they came to Idaho in the winter and fell in love with the area, they knew it would be the perfect place to gather their families for a few unforgettable days of Idaho adventure. Their original wedding plan was everything they dreamed of: getting ready in Lowman, traveling to Stanley for an intimate ceremony with the Sawtooth Mountains as their backdrop, and then returning to Southfork Lodge for their reception. But, as is often the case with mountain adventures, the mountains had other plans.

A tremendous mudslide closed several miles of the road to Stanley, completely changing their original plans. But Jessica and Michael didn’t let it derail the day they had envisioned. They simply pivoted. They found another beautiful location in Grandjean with the Sawtooths still rising behind them, and somehow, it felt like the perfect place for their ceremony. Then, just when they thought they had everything figured out, another mudslide came through Grandjean the night before their wedding! Thankfully, the area they had chosen remained unaffected, and the incredibly kind and accommodating team at Sawtooth Lodge welcomed their last-minute plans and helped make everything possible.

And honestly, we think that’s what made their wedding so beautiful. In the middle of all the unexpected curveballs, Jessica and Michael never lost sight of what mattered most. They wanted an intimate celebration surrounded by their family, with the mountains in the background—and that’s exactly what they had. The location changed, the plans changed, and the road to get there certainly wasn’t easy, but the heart of their wedding never changed. Watching these two keep the main thing the main thing was such a beautiful reminder of what a wedding day is really about.

We felt incredibly honored to be part of such an intimate celebration. Being invited into a day this personal and meaningful is something we never take lightly. We know how important it is for our couples to feel comfortable, cared for, and completely themselves in front of our cameras, especially when their wedding is intentionally small and centered around the people they love most. Your wedding day may not have gone exactly according to plan, but it turned into something every bit as beautiful—and we’re so grateful we got to be a part of it.
