Doug and Hennie were married in Germany a few months ago, but during a recent trip back to the States, they wanted to capture this special season of newlywed life with a portrait session in the mountains of Idaho.
Laura’s family goes way back with Doug’s family, and he’ll always be “Dougie” to them. It was such a joy to reconnect with him and finally spend more time getting to know Hennie. For their session, we headed out to a friend’s beautiful property overlooking West Mountain, complete with a rustic barn and sweeping views that perfectly showcased the beauty of Idaho.
From the moment we started shooting, the evening felt more like a double date than a photo session. We loved hearing about life in Germany and listening to Hennie share some of the things she appreciates and notices about life here in the United States. Their easy conversation, laughter, and genuine enjoyment of one another made photographing them effortless.
Doug wanted to incorporate a bit of a Western feel into the session and wore his dad’s boots, adding a meaningful personal touch to the images. Combined with the rugged landscape, rustic barn, and mountain views, the setting couldn’t have been more fitting.
What stood out most, however, wasn’t the scenery or the details—it was the way these two clearly love one another. Even more encouraging is their shared love for the Lord and their desire to put Him first in their marriage. As wedding photographers, there’s nothing sweeter than witnessing a couple begin this new chapter with Christ at the center.
Doug and Hennie, thank you for spending the evening with us. We loved getting to celebrate this season of life with you both, and we are praying for God’s blessing on your marriage as you begin this new adventure together.
